06-02-2026: Social Media Outrage Culture Undermines Christian Discernment

Social Media, Outrage Culture, and the Erosion of Christian Discernment

On June 2, 2026 a California pastor, James Kaddis, delivered a stark warning to Christians. He identified the relentless cycle of social media outrage and emotional deception as a weapon that fuels biblical end‑times delusion. According to Kaddis, these forces push believers to favor emotion over truth, eroding the very discernment that Scripture teaches.

Drawing on 2 Timothy 4, Kaddis highlighted that the apostle Paul warned of a time when people would reject sound doctrine in favor of emotionally driven voices. The pastor recounted, “people will no longer endure sound doctrine because truth becomes uncomfortable.” His message was clear: the current media environment produces “voices that reinforce emotion or bias or even fear or outrage or preference rather than truth.”

Kaddis accused many Christians of allowing social media influencers to shape their beliefs, saying the culture is “addicted to stimulation and all kinds of affirmation.” He urged churches to “go back to the preaching of the Word of God.”

He further criticized pastors who sidestep the truth to avoid controversy. Kaddis stated, “Pastors are sitting on the sideline being more concerned about things they should never be involved with… They’re not telling the truth.” This neglect, he contended, feeds into society’s broader confusion and deception.

The pastor called out social media for its “emotional instability and spiritual manipulation.” He stressed, “People become vulnerable to lies when emotion and pleasure, tribalism, fear, personal desire have become more important than truth.” To counter this, he urged believers to discipline their minds with “truth, purity and virtue” as opposed to “fear, negativity and emotional chaos.”

In concluding his address, Kaddis warned that deception has become a defining characteristic of the last days. He urged listeners to remain grounded in Scripture and to resist the pull of fleeting outrage cycles. His message was a rallying cry for spiritual maturity in an age where truth is often eclipsed by noise.
