IRGC launches daily assassinations in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan, killing female Basij commander
On October 14, 2026, multiple sources reported a surge of targeted killings across Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, describing the violence as an “IRGC bloodbath” with assassinations occurring almost daily.
The report originated from Iranian nationalist commentator Nioh Berg, who posted on Twitter that “there is an absolute IRGC bloodbath happening in the Iranian region of Sistan & Balochestan. Assassinations everywhere and almost daily.” Berg added that he had not previously spoken about this particular battlefield.
“There is an absolute IRGC bloodbath happening in the Iranian region of Sistan & Balochestan. Assassinations everywhere and almost daily,” the tweet read.
That same day, open‑source monitoring confirmed the killing of Afsaneh Aqila, a senior commander of the Basij’s female volunteer forces, who was shot outside her home in the town of Mehrestan. The tweet from Open Source Intel stated, “This is Afsaneh Aqila, the high ranking female commander in Iran’s Basij militia, who was shot dead outside her home in Mehrestan, southeastern Iran, today.”
Iranian state media cited by Mehr News Agency described the assailants as “terrorists affiliated with the US and Zionist Regime,” alleging the attacker opened fire at the front door of Aqila’s house. The agency noted that this was the second female official killed in the province within a week, following the assassination of Major Nosrat Eftekhari, deputy police chief of Sistan and Baluchestan, who was killed by a roadside bomb the previous week.
Both incidents underscore a rapid escalation of violence in a region already marked by sectarian tension and separatist activity. Analysts cited in the source material suggest that the pattern of daily killings could erode the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ ability to maintain order and may signal a broader destabilisation of the southeastern border area.
The next steps remain unclear, but monitoring groups expect further reports of attacks as the situation develops. Authorities have not released official statements confirming the perpetrators or outlining a response plan.
