U.S. attorney opens probe into Rep. Ilhan Omar’s financial disclosures after husband’s business spikes $30 million

Federal prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar’s financial disclosures on Oct. 13, 2026, after filings showed her husband’s businesses grew from roughly $51,000 in 2023 to about $30 million in 2024.

The investigation was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who said her office is reviewing the lawmaker’s disclosures for possible financial improprieties. Pirro said the probe focuses on the dramatic valuation jump and on whether the amended filings submitted in April, which lowered the figures to between $18,004 and $95,000, were accurate.

Earlier that week, federal agents executed a court‑approved search of Omar’s Washington residence, a step described by officials as an “escalation” in the scrutiny of the congresswoman’s personal finances. The search was part of a broader case that also examines her immigration records.

According to the original 2024 financial disclosure, the combined assets of Omar and her husband Tim Mynett were listed between $6 million and $30 million, a stark contrast to the less‑than‑$51,000 valuation reported for 2023. The April amendment attributed the discrepancy to a clerical and accounting error.

Omar’s representatives have denied any wrongdoing, characterizing the investigation as politically motivated and asserting that all required tax and disclosure corrections were promptly addressed. President Donald Trump publicly questioned how an accounting error could span such a massive valuation gap, suggesting deeper scrutiny was warranted.

Authorities have not indicated whether the residence search is directly tied to the financial disclosure probe, but Pirro emphasized that all evidence obtained through the warrants will be evaluated as the investigation proceeds.
